Winnica Monemvasia

Monemvasia Winery was founded in 1997 in the area that bares the same name. The privately-owned vineyard of the winery, around 30 hectares, is planted with native varieties, in an area with an interesting topography, soil and subsoil diversity, a lot of winds and a neighboring sea. Thισ is where its sweet white wine, the Malvasia wine (Malvasia=Monemvasia in Frankish), became the most famous wine almost globally in the late Middle Ages (12th century) and for almost five centuries. Monemvasia Winery starred in a long process for international recognition of the Protected Designation of Origin for this wine in modern times, as of Greek origin, objective that was achieved.
